The director of the Andalucian Agency for the development of the Flamenco, Francisco Perujo, and the director of the Andalucian Center of Flamenco, Olga de la Pascua, presented in Jerez the campaign, Flamenco Soy, the plan of promotion of the candidacy of the flamenco for UNESCO.
The objective of this campaign is to achieve the greater social involvement so that the most universally Andalucian art passes to be part of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Flamenco Soy seeks to trigger an emotional, subjective and committed support for our most authentic cultural demonstration. Together with the slogan, the plan of promotion considers activities of social bustle and institutional support. This Friday, the day the Festival de Jerez begins, they will install the promotional stand of the candidacy in the hall of Villamarta Theater, where the aficionados can obtain information about the project at first hand. The stand can be found in this point during the 2 weeks of the festival.
The intention of the campaign is reaching to the greatest number of people who individually support the candidacy by means of a vote. With this purpose, the website www.flamencopatrimoniodelahumanidad.es will be activated from the 28th of February. In this website, the users can find a form to support the candidacy.
The campaign will also be held in festivals like the Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba and the Festival de Minas de la Union in Murcia and in the shopping malls in Andalucia, where they will set up promotional display stands and will hand out gifts like fans, T-shirts, badges and stickers. Apart from these gifts, they will hand out about 50,000 informative brochures in Spanish, 10,000 in English, 5,000 in French and other 5,000 in Japanese.
This is the second time that the flamenco applies for being acknowledged as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. They believe that this time the conditions are ideal to achieve the candidacy, which they did not achieved in 2005.
