The Maestranza Bullring will hold the inaugural act of Sevilla´s Bienal de Flamenco with the help of flamenco singer Miguel Poveda. A change of venue was provoked by a huge public demand that was greater than the capacity of San Francisco Square, where the inauguration was originally going to be held.
The change in venue will guarantee better crowd control and technical management during the concert. The director of the Bienal, Domingo González, declares that this change will allow close to 12,000 tickets to be sold with prices that range from 6-35 Euros.
The flamenco singer and his stage director, Rafael Esquives, have disclosed that the show will be similar to a musical because of the number of dancers, singers -up to 8-, and musicians that will do a complete review of flamenco, mixing "the most contemporary with the traditional".
Apart from the inaugural concert´s change of location, the date of the show "Paseo por el amor y la muerte", will be changed to September 29-30, 2010 due to a general strike call. Also, programming will be extended to the hotel Triana on the occasion of the 1st Meeting of Andalucian Peñas Flamencas with the performance " 4 Ases del flamenco 4 ", on September 24, 2010.
