Suma Flamenca, the "best flamenco festival of the world", according to the president of the Community of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, will be celebrated from June the 4th to July the 2nd. This is the 5th festival and the program will include top artists "of the world level".
More than 33 shows and 100 performers are included in the program which will take place in Madrid and in 10 municipalities of the region. Manolo Sánlucar, the Morente, Mercé, Poveda or Galván are in the program.
For the first time, Esperanza Aguirre has participated in the presentation of the festival. She reminded that the capital has a great importance in the history of flamenco, and the flamenco is an art that occupies "a distinguished place in the cultural activities offered in Madrid". One of the novelties of the 5th edition of the festival is its "twinning" with the other flamenco festivals with longer history, like the Bienal of Sevilla, which will represent in Madrid the show "Bailes" of Pastora Galván, and later will receive the visit of Suma Flamenca with the show "Grito" of José Maya and Alfonso Losa.
During the presentation of the festival, its director Juan Verdú reminded that Suma Flamenca "gathers the best artists", and this year "they have to compete against the red ( the color of the uniform of Spanish football team)" since the dates coincide with the World Cop of football.
