
The Guitar Festival of Cordoba began its 30th edition yesterday, a very special birthday that will be celebrated with 32 performances, five of them being brand new acts, that will occur during 20 days in seven different settings of the city.
This event has grown to be the biggest guitar festival ever, with three decades under its belt and with a budget of 2.3 million euros.This year,Cordoba´s most important musical act heavily promoted this long-awaited event abroad, in New York, and also in Spain, especially in Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona. Cordoba hopes that now more than ever they will be picked as a candidate for the European Cultural Capital in 2016.
Also, an increase in spectators is expected and according to the organizers of the event, they anticipate the attendence of more than 30,000 people at each of the different shows. As of yesterday 21,548 tickets had been sold for the in high demand performances of Paco de Lucía, Joan Manuel Serrat, Placebo, and the mythical Deep Purple and Mark Knopfler. On July 25, 2010, Knopler, being the biggest attraction of this event, will close down the festival for more more than 10,000 people
Although the The Guitar Festival of Cordoba always has enjoyed new acts, this year is especially important becuase there will be at least five of them that can be seen for the first time ever.
