
The programming of the 28th edition of "Flamenco Thursdays" has recently been presented in Cadiz.
Like always, Flamenco Thursdays will begin July 15th and will last until August 26th in the Baluarte de la Candelaria in Cadiz. This year the hundredth anniversary of the of the term "bulería" will be commemorated. In her first public appearance, María Ángeles Carrasco, the new director of the Andalusian Agency for the Development of Flamenco, said that, "a summer in Cadiz without Mellizo´s Thursdays is not really summer". She reminded everyone of the agency´s intent to expand the awareness of the art of Flamenco and announced that at the performance on the 22nd, that is sponsored by the Andalusian Agency, a call will be made for the participation of the crowd in supporting this campaign. Carrasco stated,"Flamenco is artistic and cultural heritage for everyone, but we have to continue working so that that the UNESCO recognizes this as well".
The president of the Peña Enrique "el Mellizo", Antonio Benítez, shared the details of the program, in which the first performance will be José Mercé. He also presented the official publicity, work of the artist Antonio Parilla, and he thanked the collaborators saying that "although 12 million euros had been cut from the budget, the financial aid of different organizations and a small cut in the artists' pay, made this year´s event possible". This ceremony was attended by some of the program's participating artists, like Pansequit, Juan Villar, Nano de Jerez, Antonio Reyes and the dancer Daniel Saltares, among others.
The programming of the performances, all starting at 22:30, is as follows:
JULY:
15th: Show "¡¡Nostalgia Flamenca!!%" with the singer Antonio Reyes (Chiclana); David Palomar (Cádiz), Macarena de Jerez and Felipe Scapachini (Cádiz); the guitarists, Antonio Higuero (Jerez), Rafael Cabeza (Sevilla) and Adriano Lozano (San Fernando), and the dance company "La Truco"(Madrid).
Día 22: "¡¡Cantando a la Libertad!!". First part with the Lidia Cabello´s Dance Company (Cádiz), and Pansequito (El Puerto de Santa María), in concert. Second part with the singer Aurora Vargas (Sevilla), the guitarist, Moraíto Chico (Jerez), and "las palmas" of Eléctrico (Sevilla) and of Rafael Junquera (Jerez).
Día 29: "¡¡El Flamenco y la Copla!!". Primera parte con Manuel Gago (Cádiz) y La Pitu (Cádiz); las guitarras de Eugenio Iglesias (Sevilla) y Juan Ramón Ortega (Cádiz). En la segunda parte, el cante de Alejandra Rodríguez (Chiclana) ganadora de "Se llama Copla", con el piano del Maestro Lavilla (San Fernando).

Día 5: "¡¡Arte Vivo!!", con Nano de Jerez; Carmen de la Jara (Cádiz) y Cancanilla de Málaga, al cante, y las guitarras de Antonio Carrión (Sevilla) y Antonio Moya (Lebrija) además del baile de la Compañía de Juan Ogalla (Cádiz)
Día 12: "¡¡Por Derecho!!", con el cante Juan Villar (Cádiz); José Antonio Valencia (Lebrija) y Antonio Peña "El Tolo" (Jerez), y el toque de Niño Jero (Jerez), Antonio Higuero (Jerez) y Miguel Iglesias (Sevilla), y el baile de la Compañía de Daniel Saltares (Cádiz)
