The Spanish Royal House has communicated to the regional cultural ministry that they support the candidature of the flamenco so that it is included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
In the letter that this institution has sent, they stated that the king Juan Carlos is very interested in the initiative, and he expressed %u201C the best wishes for the success of it%u201D on behalf of the House of the King.
The candidature of the Flamenco already counts on the support of the central government, apart from the regional governments of Andalucia that leads the project, and the regional governments of Murcia and Extremadura with which they reached consensus. Now the support of the maximum state representation has been added to them.
This support is not the only support they received in the past months. They have also received more than 6,000 individual votes in the last three months. Also, the support of the University of La Coruña, of the Festival of Mont de Marsan, of the president of the Confederation of Companies in Andalucia, of Santiago Herrero, or of Daniel Barenboim, among the other people and institutions has been added.
To these votes, we must add the 60 city councils of Andalucia, in which Almería, Sevilla or Málaga are included. In total, about 2 millions of citizens in Andalucia support the candidature through their respective city councils.
From the beginning, the candidature counts on the support of the Andalucian Confederation of Peñas Flamenca and the Andalucian Provincial Federation which, according to its president José María Segovia, represents 90,000 fans from network of associates of the Andalucian flamenco. In the campaign, 55 peñas of Andalucia have participated directly and sent a letter of support signed by their presidents on be half of their associates. Also, the federations of peñas in Cáceres and Badajoz and the Federation Cante de las Minas are included in the representation of the communities of Extremadura and Murcia with which they reached a sonsensus on the project.
