The mayor of La Unión and the president of the festival has presented the prize winners of the cultural prizes of this event with the councillor of Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz.
For the first and the only time, they have given this acknowledgement to Mr. Juan Carlos to commemorate a half century of life of this event. Bernabé has stressed that the next Cante de las Minas will be the "festival of the festivals" without any doubts, and the "greatest flamenco show that has ever been done".
For this 50th anniversary, they will give 10 prizes in this cultural announcement, among them to the regional government of Andalucía in the institutional category, a prize which was given to the Ministry of Culture last year.
The flamenco festivalsn of Córdoba, Jerez (Cádiz), Sevilla and Granada will receive the special prize; while el Ballet Nacional de España, filmaker Carlos Saura, the journalist Jesús Quintero and Victorio y Lucchino will be acknowledged in the categories of stage arts, movies, audiovisual and stylistic arts, respectively.
The poet José Manuel Caballero has been prized in literary arts; the Chillida museum in visual arts and the centenary restaurant El Vinagrero, in La Unión, in the category of cuisine arts.
Francisco Bernabé has also informed that the registration for the contest of cante, baile and the guitar will begin on the 4th of February and will close on the 31st of March, while they will accept the registration for the 2nd contest of flamenco instrumentalists until the 15th of June.
