The Palos of the Flamenco Singing

Sevillanas

Folkloric song that comes from the Seguidilla Castellano which has been inspired by flamenco. The characteristics of the song are its grace, liveliness, agile dynamism and flexibility. People normally dance in pairs. Today, the baile consists of 4 parts and each part is different in a choreographic sense.

There is a short interval between each 2 parts. The most significant movements are the %u201Cpaseos (walking step)%u201D, %u201Cpasada (passing step)%u201D and the closing phase. At the last compás, the cante, the music and the baile suddenly stop together. The stage of the Sevillana traditionally has been the caseta of Feria and the Romerías (pilgrimage), apart from its inclusion in some shows and tablaos; however, its diffusion in our time is really unusual. Sevillanas are danced and sung all over Spain and some foreign places, in a large variety of places and different occasions. Also, many academies teach Sevillanas.
